The Roundabout Rebound

As much I hate whining about it, I must admit that my depression returned with a vengeance on the 3rd. And, as I’m sure that anyone who suffers from it knows, there is a certain feeling, even a certain “sound” perhaps, that comes along with such a resurgence. Both the feeling and the sound got so bad for me yesterday afternoon that I had to medicate myself into a sleep so deep that I didn’t wake up until after 6am this morning!

Smiley

However, the “silver lining” in that dark cloud is the fact that I was up in plenty of time to see my all-time favorite tennis player, Roger Federer – who must have been feeling a sense of “inevitability” himself as of late – beat Novak Djokovic today in four sets to reach a record eighth Wimbledon final!

Which, I guess, is why the old saying, “It ain’t over til the fat lady sings!” is so popular. And just as appropriate I guess, for me at least, is another old saying – one heard in recovery circles everywhere – “Play it all the way through!”:

Of course, if Federer wants to tie Pete Sampras in Wimbledon championships and extend his lead as the overall Grand Slam events winner, he’ll have to get past this guy first…

…Andy Murray, who, by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in today’s second men’s semifinal, became the first Brit to reach a Wimbledon final since 1938, and who that entire nation is hoping will be the first Brit to actually win the championship since Fred Perry did it in 1936!

Good Grief! Talk about a “tough to choose who to root for” situation! Smiley Smiley Smiley

For the rest of today, however, with the news forecasting temperatures of 102 today and 105 for tomorrow, I’m staying indoors and looking for relief any way I can get it – even if it comes only in the totally frustrating, meandering manner I’m used to.

And speaking of “meandering,” all this has, of course, been just my “roundabout” way of posting this really great song from the Fragile album by Yes:

  2. well, thank god I have fractals and other weird things (like music too) to help me forget (HA) about the heat… though, I admit to going for extra zzzzzz’s, cuz I have no A/C…. I really HOPE your heat breaks soon, cuz , even if one is not clinically depressed, this is enough to make one so… and if you/we are, well… that was an awesome tune – thanks IzaakMac for the reliefful interlude!!!

    • OMG Janet, no A/C?!?! I don’t even want to think about it. Hell, our local news just reported on 3 area people being found dead in their homes from the heat! 😯

I’m glad you liked the song. It’s one of my favs from way, way, WAY back. Here’s hoping you get some much needed relief soon! 😀

  3. The Brits haven’t won since ’36!? I had no idea it had been that long. That hardly seems right, with it being their tournament and all. I haven’t watched much tennis in recent years. Never have been a great fan, but used to watch the finals. These days I couldn’t even tell you who the top players are.

Stay safe in that heat. It’s nothing to mess with.

    • Well it’s been a good mix on the women’s side, but on the men’s side it’s been pretty much all Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic since the year 2000 (31 of 37 Grand Slam titles), with Federer winning 16 of those! 😀

I’m waiting til Sunday to do my much needed shopping, when it’s only supposed to get into the 80s! 🙄

  4. Roger is my man, just saying. I saw him at the US Open a few years ago. He smiled in my general direction and I nearly swooned. So I am waiting for Murray to pull it out and not choke, like he always does. (mean, Beckie, mean!) And am so glad Serena is back! She is serving like a demon!!!! Man, I love tennis. I even play (or play at playing) but not like that!!!!
I hope all is well with you!!!!

    • Hey MZ! Tennis is my favorite sport by far. I’ve only tried to play it once or twice (showing absolutely no talent for it), but I could watch it all day. I really am hoping that Roger can win it all again, just to prove that he’s not “too old” to do it, but Murray’s young and on a roll so who knows. On the other side, as much as I like to see Serena back in top form, it is hard to watch poor Radwanska take such an awful beating… 😯

As for me, I’m doing just fine… 😉

      • You are welcome, I was originally streamlining my Space when suddenly the WP peeps gave me more slots so I am pleased that you have joined me again, it has been a while and there is much to catch up on but I am happy to see you back here in My Gothic Realm 🙂

Eventually I will open up my Space again but for now it remains on lock-down, I just don’t have the time to visit everyone is my main reason but hopefully that will be sorted out soon. Have a really great rest of evening Mak and welcome back 🙂

          • Thank you Mak, it’s not something
I am used to as I have had so many
            wicked peeps through my Space,
including your good self but a lot has
changed recently as I had some major
issues that resulted in me having to
change my username, so don’t click
on any of the old andro51 comments
or it will appear that my Space is shut
down and deleted, when in actual fact
it never was 🙂 Thanks again for being
on my blogroll Mak and like the Terminator
always used to say… I’ll Be Back 🙂

  6. Watched the women’s finals last night. Well done to that little Polish girl Aggie. Despite suffering from a cold, she never once mentioned it as the reason for her loss . Very gracious in defeat.

    • I couldn’t agree with you more Loon. Even after the pounding she took in the first set, she still managed to win the second. But she was over-matched right from the start, ans still kept her head up. Very gracious indeed! 😀

        • Serena Williams is just awesome Loon. If she gets any better, they’re gonna have to move her to the men’s side! 😆

Was up all night, and then woke up feeling sick as a dog, so I only tasted the Vegemite (and actually thought it tasted good!) and beer is simply out of the question. Fortunately, I recorded the men’s final just in case. It took most of the day to watch it – Yay Federer! – and I just posted what I thought about it. I think doing the post took longer than watching the match! 🙄
