My doctors tell me that the chemical imbalance at the root of my depression causes me to see more darkness in the world than what there actually is. Sort of like going through life wearing dark sunglasses. I told them that I think depression is the sane reaction to living in a world filled with insane people – what I called “the global asylum” – and that the people who really have something wrong with them are those who pretend to be “happy” in spite of the evidence before their very eyes. Apparently my doctors interpreted my statement as evidence supporting their position.
I don’t honestly know which of us is right. I can only call ‘em as I see ‘em. But it does bother me that people who’ve known me for years and years consider me to be “too negative” – despite the fact that, while they were spending half of their time partying and the other half whining about how “hard” everything is and bitching about those they blamed for their troubles, I’ve always been the one optimistic enough to say that there’s nothing humans can’t do when fully committed to getting it done. I’m not exactly sure what was the bigger “downer” for them, my pointing out that they could do better, my showing them I was right by accomplishing what I set out to accomplish, or my refusal to dedicate all my time to solving their problems for them.
At any rate, this was supposed to be simply another post for the Just Vibes volume but it’s starting the feel like more of a Major Rant instead. I apologise for that. But I have to ask, having seen as much or more of “the real me” here on this blog as anyone in “the real world” has, do you think I’m a “negative” person?
Anyway… I know that I’ve not received a great response when I’ve posted the music of Yes in the past, but I really love both their music and their lyrics. And I simply refuse to pass on an opportunity to post one of their songs backed up by such a beautiful video!
This one is called I’ve Seen All Good People. It’s from The Yes Album and the lyrics really “speak to me” if you know what I mean. I hope you like it as much as I do…
I want ice water.

Thanks PT. Your saying that certainly proves that you aren’t. I’m thinking that being referred to as “negative” means that I’m in the habit of pointing out uncomfortable realities. A “habit” we both have in common. 😀
