The Eagles’ enigmatic Hotel California has to be one of the most beautiful and thought-provoking songs I’ve ever heard – which, of course, makes the fact that I didn’t get around to looking up its lyrics and history until yesterday just downright weird. I Know It When I See It

For those wondering why the title for this post seems so familiar, it was made famous by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, when he used it to describe his threshold test for obscenity in Jacobellis v.
