Happy New Year 2015!

Having been awakened at 5am by you know what (even after the treatment on Tuesday!), I’ll admit that I’m not exactly in a “festive” mood. But I am up, with time on my hands, and nothing better to do. So I thought I’d throw a little something together to celebrate the start of the New Year. Besides, I’m still a sentimental fool at heart, who just can’t seem to stop believing in a better tomorrow.

Philadelphia Freedom may not be my favorite Elton John song, but it holds a special place in my heart because it came out during the winter of My International Incident in Panama…

I didn’t actually hear the song until after I returned to the states in February of 1976, but it will always stand as a reminder of just how good it felt to be back home again, and, not to mention, free!

The Eagles’ enigmatic Hotel California has to be one of the most beautiful and thought-provoking songs I’ve ever heard – which, of course, makes the fact that I didn’t get around to looking up its lyrics and history until yesterday just downright weird. If their was ever a song destined for gross misinterpretation and “misheard” lyrics, Hotel California is that song!
