Okay, I admit that this time of year does little to ease the growing cynicism eating away at my soul. But seriously, it’s hard for me to see how anyone can feel happy after today’s CIA brutality revelations are layered on top of all the police brutality revelations we were already drowning in. Oh wait, I can think of one group who might…
Well my friends, to the surprise of almost no one I’m sure, a St. Louis County grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for the killing of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown, thus sparking – again to no one’s surprise – yet another addition to the already horrendously long list of American incidents of civil unrest.
I’ve been having flashbacks all night of other civil unrest nightmares that have occurred within just my memory, and I, for one, am pretty damned sick of all the madness. To tell you the truth, I’m pretty damned sick of America right now too. And yet… I’ll be damned if I can think of any place else I’d rather live…
If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably looking forward to the mid-term elections coming to an end tomorrow just as much as I am. I’m telling you, after months of negative or even downright crazy political ads, I’m thinking that the whole country might be in need of a good long shower – regardless of how the vote goes.
With that in mind, it occurs to me that a little bit of stress relief – by way of videos that I think capture the “spirit” of today’s politics so well – might just be in order! 😉
And I’ll be damned if I don’t see nails everywhere I look! 😉
I had this song playing in my head when I woke up this morning, and the lyrics just seemed the perfect match to these images… 🙂
A little political humor from Mark Fiore and the folks at Truthdig… Uh… Merry Christmas?
Okay, those of you who saw my Melancholy Tuesday… post are probably aware that I’m not exactly “enjoying” life these days. It’s true. I’m not. But doing that post did have the “therapeutic” results I’d hoped for – which, of course, is why I started this blog in the first place. Unfortunately however, the “lift” I got from doing it lasted only until I made the mistake of tuning in, if only briefly, to one of those 24/7 news channels before going to bed last night.
No, that title is not the lead-in to a joke, although I can certainly understand how those who know my views on religion might think so. No, that line is actually taken from the Twitter feed widget on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell website, which was made in reference to the segment from last night’s show where Penn Jillette and Father James Martin teach America – and Congress – how to respectfully disagree on issues far more volatile than what the top income tax bracket should be.
If you’ve been as frustrated with the state of American politics as I’ve been, this video might just make your day too! 😀
Well my friends, the news today is all about the deal in the works to get our government working again. The thing is, no one appears to have changed their position. Fortunately, there is some genuine good news today. Because… Big Teddy’s Back! 😀
I don’t know about you, but when I see images like these, I think of images like these…
