Considering that this video is six years old, I’m amazed I hadn’t heard these wonderful voices before now. I’m so very thankful to my friend Rosie for sharing it on Facebook…
The group is called The Cactus Cuties and, from what I’ve learned at their website and The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, they started in Lubbuck, Texas in 2001 with just four members. According to the Facebook posting, the group consisted of (from left to right): Baylee Barrett, age 8; Blaire Elbert, age 7; Andi Kitten, age 7; Tatum Lowe, age 6; and Madeline Powell, age 6, at the time the video was recorded. Since that time, the group has evolved back to a four member ensemble that includes only three of the five shown here.
Incidentally, according to an article on The 700 Club website:
… Americans sing the national anthem many times without knowing or understanding the meaning behind it. When the girls learned what the song was truly about, they decided to write a book about it called Oh, Say Do You Know? The book is the story of Francis Scott Key and features the Cuties’ singing the national anthem plus two bonus songs on CD.
I want ice water.
