Call me crazy (again), but I’ve always been fascinated by what I see as repeating patterns in the appearance of human faces. You know, the things about a given face that reminds you of another face you’ve seen before. I can’t begin to count the number of times I’ve seen people that looked so much like someone I knew that I’d swear they had to be related. Hell, I even had a coworker curse me out once for ignoring her when she said hello to ‘me’ at the bank – when I’d never even been to that bank! To this day, I’m not sure if she believed it wasn’t really me. I do know that I’m glad my ‘doppelgänger’ wasn’t there to rob the place. I might still be in jail if she’d been called as a witness!
Anyway, I’ve often wondered if anyone has ever been crazy enough to try to prove that such ‘human templates’ actually exist. Well, photographer François Brunelle has made one hell of an effort to do just that!
Billions of souls have inhabited Earth, but there have only been about 500 original human templates to choose from throughout human history. These templates were both a reflection of inner and outer beauty. Many metaphysicians have denied the existence of these templates. A 62-year-old Montreal-based photographer has spent the last 12 years scouring the world for complete strangers who have alarmingly similar physical characteristics. The results, at least in part, support the contention that not only do these templates exist, but sometimes to such a degree that there are other human beings on the planet that look almost identical to others, despite no relation whatsoever.

This is creepy and cool. Especially if somebody checked and made absolutely sure these people aren’t related to each other. On the other hand, given the number of people on the planet, odds are some similarities would be found. (Although what are the odds one photographer would find this many “twins”?)

Creepy and cool sums it up pretty well PT. Don’t forget that it took Brunelle 12 years to find so many! 😀

ASTONISHING, Izaak ! – something I’ve never thought about before.Where and how did he manage to find these ‘doppelgangers’, I wonder …? Fascinating stuff …

Fascinating indeed my friend. As for how he managed it, I’m guessing it took a lot more time and effort than I would’ve been able to put forth! 🙂

okay, rather creepy. It was creepy enough the first time I met my siblings and parents for the first time at 25 and they all looked like me, we were related.

Wow, meeting your family for the first time at age 25? I don’t know about creepy, but that had to feel very weird!

I knew I was adopted all my life Izaak, but yes it was a bit odd.

I’ll bet it was. It occurs to me that I should have said “meeting your birth family for the first time.” I expect your adopted family is a good one, because they raised a pretty decent adult.

They are both decent Izaak. I remain in contact and even close. Thank you 😉

Gotta admit with everyone here, this creepy but oh so cool. Imagine meeting up with your doppelganger, but maybe we wouldn’t realise it since i don’t really think to much about my own face so maybe I wouldn’t be able to realise the doppelganger effect?

Oh my friend, you’re obviously not as self-conscious as I am. Having felt as if I stuck out like a sore thumb my whole life, I think I’d spot my doppelganger across a very crowded room! 😮
