Although I may never actually see the new Jersey Boys movie, but the promo ads for it have done a wonderful job of reminding me just how much I loved those old Four Seasons songs! 🙂
The Four Seasons are an American rock and pop band who became internationally successful in the mid-1960s. The Vocal Group Hall of Fame has stated that the group was the most popular rock band before the Beatles. Since 1970, they have also been known at times as Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. In 1960, the group known as the Four Lovers evolved into the Four Seasons, with Frankie Valli as the lead singer, Bob Gaudio (formerly of the Royal Teens) on keyboards and tenor vocals, Tommy DeVito on lead guitar and baritone vocals, and Nick Massi on bass guitar and bass vocals.
I’ve spent all morning collecting videos of my favorites to post here, starting with five songs by the whole group…
Including this one, that I never even knew was made by them… 😮
And concluding with two solos hits from the great Frankie Valli himself…
For those of you shaking your heads and thinking that it’s such a shame that I’m going to allow my “urban hermit” lifestyle to deny me the pleasure of yet another great “out there in the real world” experience, I assure that, in this case at least, I have reasons beyond that for my lack of motivation towards seeing this movie. I mean no offense to the people who made it, or to the people behind the Jersey Boys play upon which it’s based, but I just have no desire to see a movie about the Four Seasons that’s filled with songs that just doesn’t sound like the Four Seasons to me. Hell, the singing on the site for the play sounded closer!

I LOVED them, Izaak ! – and … damn, I can’t remember the name; it was a bloke who sang (part) falsetto in the early ’60s … But FV&4S were brilliant, totally ! On all the hit parades ! Why on earth, I wonder, did you not know that “What a lady what a night” was theirs …?
Thanks heaps for this !!!!

Thanks you so much M-R! I can think of a few “falsetto” singers from the 60s and 70s, Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations being one. As for that “Oh What A Night” song, my stupid brain had somehow managed to associate it with the disco era!

Nah … never mind, it’ll come to me eventually. LONG after this topic has disappeared from our mutual horizon. 😕
