I was watching an old rerun of Criminal Minds yesterday; the one that ended with the following quote…
Which, in turn, inspired me to put together this little post…
Nothing you could do – That could turn me away
Hanging on anyway – Believing the things you say
Being the fool…
When I was a boy, I was taught that every decision I make, both good and bad, are recorded in some kind of ‘cosmic record’ – the contents of which would stand as the testament to how I’d managed the ‘gift of life’ I had been granted, once my life is over. Well, as an adult, I know longer believe in such fantasies, however deeply embedded in my memories they might be. But I do believe, absolutely, that a record of how well I’ve managed my life does exist.
In fact, such a record exists for each and every one of us. It’s that thing each of us has that we call our conscience – a word most of us casually toss around without ever fully realizing what a powerful and inescapable force it is in our lives. The thing is however, unlike that mythical ‘cosmic record’ that we’d have to deal with only after we’re dead, our conscience passes its judgment upon us every single moment that we are alive!
That’s what you said – And I believed it all
I want to be with you – Long as you want me to
But don’t move away
Ain’t that what you said?
Ain’t that what you said?
Ain’t that what you said?
Liar!
Liar, liar!
I know I have a lot of work to do to achieve a positive balance in my conscience. Which way are your scales leaning?
I want ice water.
