Well, wouldn’t you know it. Earth Day is upon us and, just as I feared, my terrible memory has left me almost totally unprepared. Fortunately, my good buddy Jo Bryant has done a beautiful post that included this wonderful clip I had previously searched for but could not find:
That clip is from the incredible Honey Badgers: Masters of Mayhem program I saw on PBS a couple of months back. That little guy (Stoffel?) was a total badass that wouldn’t back down from even the most dangerous animals – even breaking into a fenced off lion section just to pick a fight (that he barely survived) at one point! But that didn’t stop him – he went on to prove, once and for all, that Honey Badgers are absolutely deserving of their reputation as one of the most relentless and fearless little animals in the world. Thanks Jo!
Anyway, because it’s been playing in my head for days, and because Earth Day is one of the few days in the year that I actually want to belong to a larger community (although any group that would have me as a member would have to be one motley crew indeed), I present “Home Sweet Home” by Mötley Crüe:

I am hoping that the BBC will keep adding parts of it to their youtube account like they did this part. Stoffles rocks though doesn’t he. I nearly peed my pants with laughter when I saw him with the rake, using it to get out. Happy Earth Day my friend. For me it is over already,

Oh wow Jo, I completely missed that notice! I’ve heard there are ways to get around such restrictions but I’ve never actually tried any of them. I hope you get to see it someday because it was a really show…

Is there something equivalent to PBS where you are? I found that page by searching Google for “badger mayhem.”

Probably…but I think the problem is that it hasn’t been shown on a TV network here, so they stop you watching it in other regions.

That’s too bad. BTW, PBS stands for Public Broadcasting Network. It’s one of our best sources for stuff like that and, even better, it’s entirely commercial free! 🙂

All to do with rights, Izaak: they’d prefer to sell the programs than have us see ’em for free. To be brutally honest, I don’t blame them.

Oh I never said they should give them away for free. The PBS network here in the states is supported by both corporate and philanthropic groups as well as by the donations of its viewers, and that support in turn pays for the high quality programming they show. It is by no means free. I am extremely grateful for its existence, as I might never see programs like that one.
BTW, the original Cosmos series ran on PBS! 🙂

We saw it down here as shown by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation – the government’s TV … ahh … channel ? No: much more than that. Free to air, of course; but they have to buy everything. Happily, they mostly buy British, as the commercial channels show all the US stuff.

PBS shows a lot of the British stuff too, with my favorites being “As Time Goes By” and “Sherlock!” But they also have ones like “Nature” (an episode of which that clip came from), “Nova,” “Frontline,” and of course “The PBS Newshour” – which is, IMHO, the best news programming on TV here. I think PBS does get support from The National Endowment For The Arts as well.
