Okay, I’ve been sitting on this for days, ever since the news first broke, hoping I could come up with something really funny to say to add to the humor. Unfortunately, all I’ve been able to come up with is this question:
Am I the only one who, because of this guy…
Now has an even greater appreciation for the comedic genius of this guy?
For those who aren’t sure what’s going on in the last two videos: 😉
The first Frontline sketch, Blind Supremacy, featured the life of Clayton Bigsby (played by Chappelle), a biography of a blind white supremacist who is not aware that he is actually a black man.
As far as I’m concerned, with that skit, Dave Chappelle more than lived up to the “favorite things” requirement I put forth in my If You Really Must Know post:
In all honesty, if a person or a group, through whatever media they choose, causes me to think – especially when good humor is used to do so, chances are I would include it on my list of favorite things. And at the top of that list would be everybody who has ever dared to use great comedy to pry open the eyes of the intentionally blind.
I want ice water.

I think I am missing it. I do think you might be the only one…Sorry!

The concept of racial purity has got to be the biggest joke of all!

This is true. I remember when one of the leaders, one of the Dragons, was found out that he had African in his DNA. He was relieved of his position in the nicest way the KKK could do. He was put down so much, and his family was threatened. They didn’t check others though, and I wonder why. Were they afraid they would find out more than half of them had a black background? What would that do the members? It would sure cut back on recruitment if they had to have their DNA checked before becoming a member.

What fools they are. Regardless of appearance, the ancestry of every human on Earth traces back to Africa… 😀

This is so true. I do find a lot of reverse racism recently though. Hard to explain that, especially since I wasn’t old enough to have participated in any of the violence against blacks, and my family didn’t. I get the whole ‘you are white, thus you are privileged.” This statement is so untrue in the welfare system especially. I was told by my social worker that if I was Hispanic or black I would fare better as to benefits available. So, I have no answer to this.

Oh I definitely know what you mean. Just check out the picture of myself I included in my If You Really Must Know post and understand that I grew up in an almost entirely Black neighborhood… 😕

I read it, made a comment even.
With that mixed heritage, but looking white, I am sure you have had your own discrimination issues. Since I look white and my heritage, from what I know, is European, I am white. I don’t know all my heritage since my mum didn’t stay with my dad. If you read my ~ At 50 I Found my Father ~. Very confusing from what he said.

Thanks again Rene. Family, heritage, and the whole “finding our roots” issue is so complicated, and all too often, painful. I found the post you mentioned and I promise to try to read it later tonight.
Be at peace my friend…

No worries. Read when you get a chance. I often have to come back to a post, I simply can’t keep up with all of them in a day. Sometime it is too much information, negative, or it is just too much to read. Since I have Lupus and fibro, I get worn out fairly easy some days.

I saw that first video a few days ago and I’m still laughing over it. The other two, though, don’t strike me as particularly funny. I must be missing something.

I don’t know PT, I guess it’s that old “philosophy” thing again. I just think that anyone who believes person’s character and fundamental outlook on life is determined by his or her race is just as big a fool as blind man who unknowingly shouts racial epitaphs against his own race. With that skit, Dave Chappelle more than lived up to a requirement I put forth in my If You Really Must Know post:

Oh, man, that has to be my favorite Chappelle character. That whole bit was just genius, I think; Chappelle generally took on “taboo” ideas about race that no one else would touch.
I’d never heard of Craig Cobb before now (thanggod), so I’m tickled that my introduction to him is his being revealed to be a buffoon!!

Oh man Luddy, you don’t know what a relief it is to get a comment from someone who appreciates this post! 😀

Yeah, y’know, I’m kind of surprised by the other comments; I thought people “got” Chappelle, but I guess not. And then I remember that he did walk away, maybe in frustration.

Oh yeah he did. And after producing some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen. This is from my favorite skit:
