Please note that none of the above lists are exhaustive, the authors and movies in particular. In all honesty, if a person or a group, through whatever media they choose, causes me to think – especially when good humor is used to do so, chances are I would include it on my list of favorite things. And at the top of that list would be everybody who has ever dared to use great comedy to pry open the eyes of the intentionally blind.
Honestly, when I wrote that post over four years ago, the list of my “favorite” comedians was simply too long for me to narrow down without leaving off some very important people. But, of them all, if I had to pick one comedian to top my list of those who “dared to use great comedy to pry open the eyes of the intentionally blind,” I’d have to pick George Carlin.
In his honor, I’ve put together this playlist containing seven eight short, yet still great, video examples showing why:
Update: Note that I’ve added one more video to the front of the list. Thanks Rachael! 😀
I want ice water.

Its a great playlist. Was actually watching some this morning so quite a nice coincidence that yr mind was in the same wave length.

That is a cool coincidence my friend! 😀 Of course, I did collect these over a month ago and took my usual “snail’s time” before posting them… 😳

Yeah. So much to do, and so little time in which to do it. And my aching back isn’t exactly helping… 🙄

Perfect collection Mak. One of my very first album purchases (back in the days of the parental allowance for mowing the grass, taking out trash, doing dishes, etc.) was the Class Clown record. Have been a Carlin fan ever since. Hmmmm must be 40 years now 🙂
Great stuff for my Sunday Morning brunch!

Good grief Rachael, you reminded me that there’s another video I meant to include in the playlist! It’s about Carlin’s infamous “7 Dirty Words” and is now at the front of the list. It’s funny how I thought for years that that was the first time I’d heard of him. But then I ran across clips like the one below, and I realized that I’d seen him quite a few times before that! 😀

Let me wish you a very happy birthday as well. Have a feeling we’re of the same generation… and my own B-day was last month,
Fact: Once you reach 50 the clock begins to turn backwards. EX: When hitting 50 you will be 49 the following year, 48 the year after that, etc
Physics (in Rachael world) rock 😉

Thanks Rachael. With your “Rachael world physics,” it looks like we’re both of the Adam Savage generation as well:
Using your math, I just returned to the ripe “young” age of 43! 😆

George Carlin, always fascinating, provocative, outrageous, intelligent. He dealt in extreme candor, made me uncomfortable, never lied. One of a kind.

I’m not sure where I’ve been, but I’m back. Happy belated birthday. I turned 68 a while ago. If I do Rachel’s reverse physics, does that mean I’m 86? I was lucky enough to get night-time ionosphere bounce and receive WLS Chicago AM 77 in Kitchener Ontario. I got to hear their comedy hour between 3 and 4 AM. I listened to Carlin’s Take-Offs and Put-Ons and The Button-down Mind of Bob Newhart in 1965 – that’s 47 years ago. I’m older than Rachel. Hell, I’m older than dirt.

Thanks Archon! Wow, I’d love to have heard some of those broadcasts. I just turned 57, so not quite as old as dirt yet. But I’m definitely beginning to understand what it feels like! 😆
BTW, I think you got Rachael’s “reverse mathematics” wrong. By my calculations, with you being 18 years past 50, that would make your “new” age 32. Time to sign up for that triathlon!!! 😉

ERMAHGERD! Love the old Bob Newhart albums, especially Button down Mind. My dad had these on vinyl and I got hip to him early in life.
Older than dirt? Naw….. Stronger than Dirt!
