I admit it. I’ve been just a “tad” addicted to Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” ever since I posted the video in my It Ain’t Easy Being This Good post. And, if the number of Youtube “interpretations” out there are any indication, I am certainly not alone. I do wonder, however, how many Gotye “fans” have taken their “love” for the song this far?:

Apparently even Gotye himself couldn’t resist joining in on the fun:
”Reluctant as I am to add to the mountain of interpretations of Somebody That I Used To Know seemingly taking over their own area of the internet, I couldn’t resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered. ”

I love this song too, and decided to buy it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure out what the original was because there were so many knock-offs. This song has been gang-raped by a hundred different artists. I ended up with some weird hip-hop mix before I found the one I wanted. Then I listened to it for three days straight, and now I can’t stand the song.
Did you know I have a Kashmir collection? Yes, I have about 10 versions of that song. Mainly because it’s my favorite song ever. Oh, it’s a tough choice between Hotel California and Kashmir, but there’s only one Hotel California. Speaking of which, I haven’t heard that for a while. Greatest guitar solo ever (at least for me). I’m in the mood for some Eagles anyway. I should bust them out. Thanks for reminding me.

I know exactly what you mean Dood. And I’m also a huge fan of both The Eagles and Led Zeppelin. I’ve posted several songs by both here but, unfortunately, their music appears to be on YouTube’s “yank down as soon a discovered” list. As far as I know though, the ones in these posts are still up: Soothing That Inner Rage, Sunday Reflections – The Last Resort 😀

I think Zach Braff put it best when he tweeted “I wish Gotye’s girlfriend hadn’t broken up with him, because I’m really getting sick of that song.”
Oh, and you missed one. My favorite version of it so far.

Oh good grief El G! Like the ones included in this post, I actually intended to post that one a long time ago but lost the link in my insanely long list of bookmarks. I never occured to me to search for “WOTE” this morning as well as “GOTYE.” Damn that Zach Braff and his infinite wisdom! 🙄

I now can’t hear the original without it segueing into that spoof.
Oh, the horror…

Apparently, neither can Gotye. I count four separate bits from it in his list of Original videos used in Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra! 😀

I’ve never heard this song before. I have no desire to hear it again. This was a hit? What are you people thinking?!?
(But I do like the Chive video!)

Thanks! When I first started my blog, I didn’t expect this at all. But I put a lot of time and passion into it and hopefully that shows. And I get a lot of hits from search engines.
