Hurricanes and Horror Movies

Have you ever noticed that horrible and seemingly never ending “drop down” list of “Posts With Music” in my Menu Bar? I’ve been meaning to do something about it for a very long time. I’ve had several things in mind that I’d like to replace it with, the primary one being a cool “Tag Cloud” like the one in the sidebar at CosRain.Com. Hell, I can think of LOTS of uses for a widget like that – if I just knew how to make one!

Anyway, what I actually know how to do is add another page similar the ones that can be called up from my “Contents” “drop down” list. So that’s what I decided to do this morning. Unfortunately, that requires creating a list of links from what I have on the Appearance | Menus page on my WP Dashboard (something I probably would have had to do for the “Tag Cloud” anyway). OMG, what a tedious bore that is! After just a few minutes of monotonous repetition, I decided I’d try to “automate” the process using this neat “macro” program I downloaded but never got around to trying.

Or so I thought! The problem with using a macro in the Windows environment is that not only do you have to be very careful when it comes to cursor position and mouse clicks, but the time it takes for Windows to actually do what you’re telling it to do varies so much that what you end up clicking on and where you end up pasting to turns out to be nothing like what you intended!

Now in all fairness to the developers of the macro program, they did design into it a very powerful programming language I could use to make my macro work the way I want. But the fact is that I could do the whole job manually in far less time than it would take me to learn enough of that language to create a macro to do want I want. So, after wasting an enormous amount of time on this already with next to nothing to show for it, would you care to guess how motivated I am right now to continue the process?

Well here’s a couple of experiences that are way ahead of it on my “To Do” list:

Via Watch 163 Horror Movies in 2 1/2 Minutes – GeekTyrant

Any questions?

I want ice water.

  1. ohh macros, the bane or love for us all, if they work they are great and wonderful. Remember my first tries into macros when I was running a BBS in the DOS enviroment, think I managed to wipe out almost all my files in one go, took me a while to recover from that mistake of del *.* command in the wrong space. *shiver* but best of luck to you…

    • I’m think that, since what I’m trying to do involves generating hypertext links anyway, I’d be better off learning javascript. After all, that’s what “Press This” thingy I’ve been using to create them all along is written in! 😀

  2. We have similar tastes in widgets. I’ve always wanted one like you linked to, with the floating, moving categories. I concluded long ago that I’d need to move to WordPress.org to have goodies like that. And I just can’t gin up the energy to make the change.

    • I hear ya on the energy thing PT. I’d like to learn how to create things like that too but, in addition to lack of motivation, I’d have to have a place on the web to try them out as well as a server from which they’re sourced. Of course, going WP.org would help me learn about those things too, in advance of learning to code…
