For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a fascination with the wide variations in the way people talk. Having grown up with a pretty severe West Virginia “country” accent myself, for which I’ve received a fair share of friendly ribbing, I found the thought of being able to switch accents at will to be more than a little appealing. But as fascinating as the idea of being a great voice impersonator like Rich Little or Mel Blanc was, about the best I ever managed was to accomplish was “toning down” my own embarrassing drawl to a point where I might actually be taken (somewhat) seriously.
But of course that doesn’t mean that my “inner dialog” ever stopped trying. In fact, the “voices in my head” are far better at voice impersonations than anything my real voice has ever achieved. And, by far, the accent most favored by my psyche has been the British accent. I’m talking everything from Shakespeare, to Robin Hood, to James Bond, to Monty Python, and most especially, to John Cleese – who’s link you absolutely must click!
And that, of course, is why I had to have my own copy of this image from Facebook:

And why I almost fell out of my chair laughing at this John Branyan stand-up video from BatDoc’s How To Be Awesome #120820 post:
I want ice water.

Only bad parts about accents are when you’re hitting on a girl, and someone from somewhere else steps in and steals her with a silky foreign voice.
Yes, I lost her to the accent I tell you. TO THE ACCENT!
Had nothing to do with me.
Hmph.

ohhh, I got a german voice which is actually quite annoying since it’s very dominant, JA!! but this is true, I do have a german accent when I daydream or thinking… brilliant video from that John Branyan./

Thanks my friend. Fortunately for me (I think), the only German voice in my head is from Cheech and Chong! 😆
BTW, thanks for the plug, and I loved that 3 Little Pigs music video!!! 😀

As much as I hate to admit it, locking myself away to avoid “being naughty” is a big part of the problem. Unfortunately, when I “go out” I’m like a big truck with bad brakes. I tend to leave a lot of damage, mostly to myself, in my wake… 😕

P.S. I’ll put my Okie accent up against yours any day! Never longed for an English accent though. Simple, neutral Midwestern would suit me just fine.

I’d love to say that I’ve eliminated my accent altogether PT, but I know that it comes back with a vengeance when I’m stressed or I’ve had a few drinks. Oddly enough, it was all the stress from living around drunks in my youth that started me dreaming about about alternates in the first place, and that ultra proper British thing seemed like the perfect choice! 😀

I hadn’t either PT, but I’m sure glad for BatDoc’s intro. The channel this came from has several more of him I’d like to check out too! 😀

That guy just cracked me up Michelle. His “American” impersonation was just as funny as the “Old English” one was! 😀
