Dirty Harry Meets Bluegrass And Rap?

It occurs to me that, while praising the new TV shows I really like in comments for my last post, I completely forgot to mention one that has, in my mind at least, become a genuine standout: The FX series Justified starring Timothy Olyphant.

In case you don’t recognise the name (I know I didn’t), you might remember him as:

Thomas Gabriel, the leader of the Internet-based terrorist organization who
systematically shut down the United States in Live Free or Die Hard

Or as:

The seriously bad-ass-gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 in Hitman

Anyway, according to Wikipedia:

“Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is something of a 19th century-style officer in modern times, whose unconventional enforcement of justice makes him a target with criminals and a problem for his superiors in the U.S. Marshals Service. As a result of a controversial but “justified” shooting of a mob hit-man in Miami, Givens is reassigned from Florida to Lexington, Kentucky, a district that includes Harlan County, a rural mining area in the east of the state, where Raylan was born and raised.”

This series has far too many things I love about it to list them all here. But if I had to pick just one, it would be all those wonderful “down-home” country accents – just like the ones I grew up with less than 200 miles from where the story takes place.

Here’s the original Justified trailer:

But I didn’t actually become a regular viewer until Season 3:

And last night’s Season 3 Finale more than lived up to this promo:

Oh yeah, were you wondering about my choice of titles? Well y’all just check out the Justified Theme Song:

Hot damn! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Apparently other shows have been catching my attention because I’ve managed to be completely unaware of this one. I also don’t recognize Olyphant. Guess I’d better start paying attention. Thx for the tip.

    • It took me a while to get into this one too PT, mainly because FX isn’t one of my usual stops. But this one is actually a real gem. The Timothy Olyphant link at the top will take you to his IMDB page, where all of his roles are listed. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. what night and time is it on…..It looks like something I would watch….Did you ever watch Memphis Beat? It was sort of the “good ole boys type” justice southern style with some real good music ( blues ..my favorite). I have not seen this Tim O., but I will look up his credits and then maybe I
will recognize him……thanks for the heads up..

    • Hey Rosie! It was on Tuesday nights at 10pm but, with the season being over, it’s not on my guide for next week. I’m sure they’ll be showing reruns though. The links I provided should provide answers to your questions, about the show and Tim O.

I did actually watch Memphis Beat for a while, but I stopped and can’t remember why. I do remember that it had some pretty good music, and I was blown away by Jason Leeโ€™s performances! ๐Ÿ˜€
