A Dropped Ball WILL Bounce Back Up

“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another
with no loss of enthusiasm.”

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

– Winston Churchill

Falling a bit short of the grit and determination that Winston Churchill had in abundance, I readily admit that I’m starting this post filled with an anticipation of failure. You see, my wondrous piece of desktop technology (previously known as “the old hunk-o-junk”) apparently thought that it was in my best interests that I take a break for the weekend.

So, acting with only the best of intentions I’m sure, the dear, sweet thing generously decided to scare the crap out of me by feigning the electronic equivalent of a series of epileptic seizures right after I published my Nature or Nurture? post on Saturday morning! Now wasn’t that just incredibly sweet of it to do?

Well, realizing that my good friend was acting with only the purest intent in its cold little heart, and wasn’t really giving me the old at the behest of a malignant and mean spirited God, I’ve decided to set aside all of the frustration I felt and embrace the love that I now know was there all along.

And it wasn’t as if there weren’t good things happening away from my desk to lighten my mood. For one thing, I had plenty of time to watch the hilarious Yes Man on TV. Unfortunately, the malignant and mean spirited Gods of Youtube have blocked me from embedding every one of the clips I wanted to include, leaving me with nothing to do but include this link to the most memorable part: Jim Carrey Singing Jumper!!!

And while I wasn’t exactly shocked that only one of the seven teams I listed in my
An NCAA Four By Four! post actually made it past the “Sweet 16” round of the big tournament, I was very surprised, delighted actually, that that one team was my own hometown Ohio State Buckeyes! And things got even better too, because they also won their “Elite Eight” contest and is now scheduled to play against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday night in the second of two “Final Four” games!

Way to go Buckeyes!

Now I know that some of you may have a “less than solid” grasp on all this…

And even those who do understand may not give the Buckeyes much of a chance against the Jayhawks, to whom they’ve already lost in a prior meeting this season, and even less of a chance against the odds-on, universally favored Kentucky Wildcats if they do get that far. But those who feel that way should keep in mind that, just as the North Carolina Tarheels were without their best player when they fell to the Jayhawks on Sunday, the Buckeyes were also without their best player, one Mr. Jared Sullinger, when they were bested by the Jayhawks back on December 10th.

And, as for the Kentucky Wildcats, the anything-can-happen history of “March Madness” has lessons for them to ponder as well…

To view a graphical breakdown of the entire tournament, go to 2012 NCAA March Madness Mens Basketball.

Wow, I can’t believe it! I guess my sweet talking worked. Take THAT, you electronic Spawn of Satan!

Oh crap! The damned… err… dear, sweet thing actually froze up right then!

I want ice water.

    • What an excellent point! Oh wait, I’ve got more to do on here today…. How dare you insult my wonderful machine that way?!?! Whew! 😳 😆

Go Buckeyes! (I think he likes them too…) 😉

    • Thanks PT. They’ll need all the help they can get! 😀

BTW, my email show at least a couple of posts you did that I missed because of this piece of crap… err… my wonderfully considerate machine buddy. Hopefully, I’ll be able to catch up today! 😉

  1. I think you should accidently leave a computer mail order catalogue open close to your machine so that it might think that you are replacing the “lovely” thing. That should make it realise that it’s about time to start acting proper and not freeze on you. But yes, have no clue about the basketball thingy but best of luck to you team, for you I will even consider buying a t-shirt supporting them… 😀

    • Official Buckeye merchandise is a bit pricey for my tastes, but you can get it here if you’re serious: http://shop.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/

And I don’t know about the computer catalog trick. All the emails I get from on-line hardware sites have never seemed to shake the old beast up. However, a catalog with a pile of cash next to it might just do the trick!!!!

  2. Oh, IzaakMak, your computer needs an exorcist! And sorry, I know nothing about golf so I can’t comment on the sports thing.
I’ll send my exorcist over to you…he’s pretty handy with those freeze-demons.

  3. Well, I picked KY and Ohio State to go to the Final 4, so I’m good there. But I seriously choked in the other two brackets. I still have a decent change, though, as I picked KY and Ohio State in the semi-finals with KY winning….. (I’m already starting my March Madness withdrawals…..)

    • I didn’t even attempt to fill out the brackets because, other than Ohio State, I barely paid attention until the Conference Championships were about to begin. Looking back on it now, I wouldn’t have done so well.

You do know that Ohio State and Kentucky are on opposite sides of the draw don’t you? They’d both have to win their Final 4 games in order to play each other in the Championship Final. But I am absolutely OKAY with that! 😀

  4. Oh great … a visit a Buckeye love fest after my Bearcats lose to them. Nonetheless, I wish your team well as they were the better. And if these face Kentucky, Coach Matta better not fall short two years in a row!!! (Yep, I’ll take diarrhea and vomiting over Kentucky winning). BTW – thanks for not using the condescending article when referencing OSU.

    • Considering their locations, it’s weird how rarely the Bucheys and Bearcats play each other, especially considering the fireworks their games have produced in the past: Bearcats vs. Buckeyes: Renewing the NCAA Rivalry. I had no idea! 😀

As for what’s to come, I’m feeling like my team is a little “David” having to fight through a sea of “Near Goliaths” to get to Kentucky – the genuine BIG DEAL HIMSELF! 😯

    • I don’t know if that would explain the freezing up when it was fresh out of the box, but it might just explain the problem getting worse over time. Thanks Cool! 😀

  6. You know, I have always been impressed by your inclusion of emoticons in posts and responses, but nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the emoticon flipping you off. Now that’s priceless.

As for hunk-o-junk, more preaching to the choir, bud. Some day . . .
