Intercontinental Ballistic Microfinance

I found this amazing video over on the Metousiosis blog. It’s almost as much fun to watch as a 4th of July Red, White & Boom! ๐Ÿ˜€

Kiva presents The Intercontinental Ballistic Microfinance a data visualization of Kiva loan activity for 4,033,920 unique leander-borrower connections between 01Jan05 and 22Jun11, where each moving point is a lone share. Stunning.

    • Coming from you, I take that as quite the endorsement. I was looking through my list of “draft” posts earlier today, and was amazed by how many of them were reblogs of stuff you’ve posted! I’m thinking about doing a “Cool Links From Cool Berman” post to get them off the list. There were also quite a few (still) from the Metousiosis blog, so maybe I’ll do one for each of you. ๐Ÿ˜€

        • It may take a while, unfortunately. The way my PC has been acting lately, I’m lucky to be able to even respond to these comments. But I will keep at it. Who knows, I might get lucky! ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. Truly amazing–a wonderful example of how really strong data visualizations can function simultaneously as aesthetic and informatic objects. I will definitely be sharing this one with colleagues and students. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Have you heard about the Information is Beautiful Awards that launched last week?

    • Thank you. You know, of course, that I did not create this. But I do think data visualizations have a wonderful capacity to both inform and entertain us. The awards you mentioned can only help to spur on the further development of the medium. ๐Ÿ˜€
