The Honest Awards

Many of the bloggers I follow have been doing “Honest Award” posts lately, where they reveal 10 honest things about themselves and lists 10 other blogs that they feel are deserving of the award as well. I Want Ice Water has even received top position on a couple of these lists. But I myself have yet to do one. This post is my attempt to explain why.

I guess the primary reason would be the pure embarrassment of having the spotlight shone on my work. Just like any other creative person, I like to know that my work is appreciated. But I’m not very good at taking bows, and I tend to get all flustered, red-faced, and tongue-tied when I try. It’s times like that when I try to remember the old saying, “It’s better to remain silent and let everyone think you’re a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

But there is another reason as well: With the exception of my rather scatter-shot attempts at humor, I Want Ice Water itself is already one long list of naked-truth personal revelations about myself and my life. Frankly, an attempt to somehow boil it all down to 10 items sounds like an exercise in futility. And, as if that wouldn’t be difficult enough, trying to cut short and rank the list of my favorite blogs would be next to impossible. I’m so glad that WordPress sorts my ever-growing Blogroll sections for me.

So to the nice folks who have included my blog on their lists, as well as to all the others I visit almost every day, I want to give my thanks to you for the wonderful inspiration you provide, and to let you know that you’re all very special to me. I hope you understand. 🙂

I want ice water.
