Melancholy Man

After going weeks getting only a couple of hours of sleep at a time, I finally gave in and took the Trazodone I’ve been prescribed to help me sleep through the night. I really don’t like to take it because of how groggy it leaves me feeling the morning after. When you add in the fact that a good night’s sleep also allows me to have those intensely powerful dreams that I never want to wake up from, that grogginess is usually accompanied by bitter resentment as well. This morning was no different.

Since writing is the best way that I know of for me to deal with intense emotions, I naturally made my way to my computer once I had calmed down a little. But being that I use an old-hunk-o-junk computer, it was also only natural that it would give me all sorts of grief before I could begin. And, also quite naturally, the essentials of the dream were lost by the time I had my editor open and ready. Quite naturally, once again, this left me with a very powerful sense of loss.

Since these dreams have always reminded me of the songs of Justin Hayward & John Lodge, I naturally turned to their music for solace. This time I’ve selected something from their days with The Moody Blues that fits my mood to a tee.

The Moody Blues – Melancholy Man

I’m a melancholy man – That’s what I am
All the world surrounds me and my feet are on the ground

I’m a very lonely man – Doing what I can
All the world astounds me and I think I understand

That we’re going – To keep growing – Wait and see

When all the stars are falling down, into the sea and on the ground
And angry voices carry on the wind

A beam of light will fill your head, and you’ll remember what’s been said
By all the good men this world’s ever known

Another man is what you’ll see, who looks like you and looks like me
And yet somehow he will not feel the same

His life caught up in misery, he doesn’t think like you and me
‘Cause he can’t see what you and I can see

~ Musical Interlude ~

When all the stars are falling down, into the sea and on the ground

A beam of light will fill your head, and you’ll remember what’s been said

All the world astounds me and I think I understand

That we’re going – To keep growing – Wait and see

I want ice water.
