Black On The Right Side

I was made painfully aware of how dangerous racism can be when I was just a boy. I was also made aware of how silly, sick, and pointless it is by the efforts of people like these:

Bele and Lokai

Star Trek's Bele and Lokai

And if that wasn’t enough, I would’ve thought that images like these would have driven the point home:

Rodney King

Reginald Denny

The 1992 Los Angeles Riots

After all, we did elect this guy:

President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama

Yet I have to wonder at the motivations of guys like these:

TV News Outlets

TV News Outlets

And how they have pursued the events involving these guys:

Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Police Sergeant James Crowley

For more, I invite you to read my Tolerance… Not! Race post. I poured a lifetime’s worth of experience into writing it. It’s a part of my Tolerance… Not! series.

    • The title to this post come from the line in the Star Trek clip where Frank Gorshin’s character explains the distinction between himself and his adversary.

Of course, the post I was referring to for the WPWG is Tolerance… Not! Race. This one is really meant as a sort of introduction to that one.

    • My son was recently the victim of a vicious random attack and, now that the horror of it has passed somewhat, we’ve been joking about him looking a little like Rodney King after his beating. But the costs of the procedures that he’ll now have to go through – and pay for, is reason for me to hope that he can cash in somehow as well. 😐

  1. Background on Reginald Denny:
Reginald Oliver Denny is born on January 22, 1956 in Lansing, Michigan.
Shelley Roseanne Montez (Reginald Oliver Denny’s ex-wife and now married to Christopher Coppel in London, England) was born on August 12, 1962 in Los Angeles County in California.
Ashley Rose Denny (Reginald Oliver Denny’s daughter) was born on June 14, 1992 in Stanislaus County in California
Reginald Oliver Denny and Shelley Roseanne Montez got married in Clark County, Nevada on February 14, 1982. Unfortunately, they got divorced four years later, and Reginald Denny is now living in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

  2. Rodney King was on the celebrity rehab show on MTV, I’m sorry the name of the show escapes me, he’s one of the big reasons why I followed that show that season. All of that really fucked him up emotionally and his addictions got the better of him, last I heard he was still sober and still repairing his life especially with his daughters. It was very hard for him to talk about this incident, it really affected his whole life.

    • I can’t help but feel for the guy, especially in light of being forever thought of as the poster child for racial discrimination in America. But on the bright side, is there is one, maybe his being a symbol for change will do him – and us – some good in the long run. 😐

  3. I just came across your blog as I was researching Reginald Denny. I wondered if anyone would remember him since Van Jones was appointed to the BHO office. This is a terrific piece, and I have shared it on Facebook. I also see that you have written a book. I am going to order it and read it. Thank you, and God Bless.

  4. Ok, it’s not a book? LOL – I thought “But mostly I’m just disappointed that no one has bothered to read Tolerance… Not! Race that took me a lifetime’s worth of experience to create” meant you had written a book. Silly me! I WILL read your posts there, though!
    God Bless,

    • Thanks you for your very kind words. I started this thing with the thought of eventually making it into some kind of book. I’ve been trying to give it the look and feel of a book ever since. Unfortunately, the structure of the software used for this blog doesn’t lend itself very well to book formating.

FYI, the “BlogTags” widget in the sidebar shows how the blog is divided into “volumes” – with the “heavier” stuff producing a separate table of contents page when selected.

Thanks again. I hope you visit again soon.

  5. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is an arrogant, racist, elitist asshole. The only racism involved in that incident was the retarded filth that spewed from his own mouth.
