These thoughts were inspired in part by my friend Rosie’s Facebook shares…
And I’ll be damned if I don’t see nails everywhere I look! ;)
I simply haven’t been able to get this song out of my head since fellow blogger Poietes posted it on Tuesday. I mean, seriously, is there a better testament to the state of our world today?
I don’t have a lot of words for you today my friends. My need for air conditioning to fight the heat has just aggravated my arthritis so much, and I’m afraid my back just can’t handle more than a few minutes hunched over my keyboard.
But I do want to share this very nice video my friend Rosie posted on Facebook, and this collection of random “reflections” from around the net…
I am not a big fan of television news. Don’t get me wrong, I do check in now and then just to check on the weather and to make sure I won’t be the last guy on earth to know the world is ending, but, as a general rule, I find the news to be just too damned depressing to watch for more than a few minutes at a time.
But there are a couple of “voices” on the news that I really like listening to, even though we may disagree on so many things. One of them is Rachel Maddow, and the other is Lawrence O’Donnell. I may avoid the heavily left-leaning MSNBC throughout the day as much as I avoid all the rest, but I try to at least check-in once or twice during at evening just to see what’s up with those two.
The thing is, though I’d been checking-in as regularly as usual, I just kept missing Mr. O’Donnell over the last couple of months somehow – that is, until last night…
What she said… ;)
The news these days has been just dominated by speculation over what, if anything, the U.S. should do about the growing “crisis” in Iraq. For those who’ve been living under a rock, the crisis revolves around the murderous advance, through Iraq, of the group known as ISIS (The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria), a fanatical offshoot of Al-Qaeda, whose apparent aim is to create the world’s first terrorism-derived Islamic state across the Sunni areas of Iraq and Syria. This group is so extreme that even the leadership of Al-Qaeda itself has purportedly expressed disapproval of their tactics!
